Nearly 50 percent of Americans have varicose veins but only a small percentage seek treatment. Part of the hesitation to seek treatment is the misconception that the only way to treat spider and varicose veins is through surgery.
While vein surgery is an option, it’s not the only way to treat swollen, bulging veins. At Premier Vascular & Vein Center in Knoxville, we offer non-invasive procedures for getting rid of spider and varicose veins.
Here are some non-invasive treatment options we offer:
Sclerotherapy
This is the vein treatment we usually offer for patients with spider veins. It’s a minimally-invasive procedure that involves the injection of a vein-irritating solution into the affected vein. It causes the diseased vein to swell, collapse, and eventually fade into view.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy
If you have medium to large varicose veins, we usually recommend ambulatory phlebectomy for those. It’s another minimally-invasive procedure that involves the creation of a slit-like incision on the area surrounding the diseased vein.
The diseased vein is then removed using a small knitting needle-like hook.
Endovenous Laser Therapy
This an ultrasound-guided treatment that uses a tiny fiber-optic laser. This laser, which is inserted into the diseased vein through a needle, heats and closes the vein. This causes the blood to be re-routed to healthier veins.
Radiofrequency Ablation Endovenous Therapy
The process is similar to Endovenous Laser Therapy, except that the diseased vein is treated using a short burst of radiofrequency energy.
