Endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) is one of the non-surgical treatment options we offer at Premier Surgical Vein Clinic in Knoxville.

What is Endovenous Laser Treatment?

EVLT is a minimally-invasive procedure for getting rid of varicose veins and restoring healthier looking legs.

It uses heat from a laser (a device that sends a thin beam of radiation in the form of light) to seal abnormal veins and reroute blood flow to healthier veins.

How does it work?

Local anesthesia is used to numb the area around the diseased vein. A laser fiber is placed into the vein via a small cut on your skin.

Using a laser fiber, our physicians introduce heat into the area to shut down the vein and seal it.  Once the affected veins are sealed, your body will reroute the blood into your healthier veins.

What can you expect after EVLT treatment?

You will have to wear compression stockings after the procedure daily for the next 5-7 days.

This is an in-office procedure, so expect the treatment session to be done in less than an hour.

We highly recommend that patients walk for at least 20 minutes, several times a day after the procedure. However, we discourage hard physical activity and heavy lifting (heavier than 20 lbs) for a week after EVLT.

Is EVLT covered by insurance?

Most insurance companies cover medically necessary varicose vein laser treatments like EVLT especially after you have shown that you’ve tried conservative management (i.e. diet, exercise, use of compression stockings) for weeks (this depends on what your insurance company requires).
