Varicose veins are not life-threatening, but they can certainly be uncomfortable.

If you are, at this point, considering varicose veins treatment, it’s important to know what recovery looks like.

We, at Premier Vein Clinic in Knoxville, believe that by knowing what lies ahead can help you prepare. And that greatly increases your chance of a speedy and healthy recovery.

Sclerotherapy

One of the vein treatments we offer at Premier Vein Clinic is sclerotherapy. Often recommended for small veins, sclerotherapy involves the injection of a solution directly into the affected vein. This causes the vein to scar and blood to be re-routed to healthier veins.

What to Expect After the Procedure
The good thing about sclerotherapy is that you can get up and walk around as soon as you’re done with it. Although physical activity is highly encouraged after the procedure, strenuous activities such as weight lifting should be avoided for 2 weeks.

Also, for 2 weeks after the procedure, you’ll be advised to wear compression stockings. These help in maintaining the compression on the treated veins.

Sun exposure should be avoided. The combination of the injected solution and sun exposure may lead to the formation of dark spots on the treated area.

Sclerotherapy is a safe procedure. However, you may experience some minor side effects after it. These may include itching, raised and red areas, and bruising. These should go away in a few days, with the exception of bruising which may last for weeks.

Endovenous Ablation Treatment
Endovenous ablation is a procedure done for closing the saphenous vein in the leg. The saphenous vein is the main superficial vein associated with varicose veins. This can be done either with a laser or radiofrequency technology.

What to Expect After the Procedure

Immediately after the treatment, patients are encouraged to start walking immediately. Strenuous activities such as weight lifting are highly discouraged for two to three weeks. This is to provide the legs with ample time to heal and for the treated site to remain closed. Expect for mild discomfort and bruising for 2 to 4 weeks.

You may start noticing a significant difference in the treated site in months although you may notice the difference in the first few weeks.
