Topic: What You Can Expect After a Varicose Vein Treatment
About 20 to 25 million Americans have varicose veins. Many of them will undergo varicose vein treatment at some point in their lives.
At Premier Vein Clinic in Knoxville, we are often asked of the following questions pertaining to recovery after varicose vein treatment. Knowing these facts can help you especially if you’re considering getting rid of your varicose veins.
How will I feel immediately after the procedure?
Initially, you may feel some soreness and discomfort after the procedure. The discomfort is normal and typically subsides within 2 weeks after the procedure. We advise our patients to do moderate physical activity every day. This helps in easing the discomfort and prevents the formation of blood clots.
What happens to the blood flow when the affected vein is closed during the vein treatment?
The circulatory system is not disrupted during varicose vein treatment. In your legs alone, you have plenty of veins to choose from. When a vein is closed off during treatment, blood flow is simply re-routed to healthier veins.
Are there potential complications from varicose vein treatment?
There are rarely any serious complications with vein treatments such as EVLT, RFA, and sclerotherapy. Rare complications can include clotting and infection.
After the procedure, there may be some mild side effects, but these usually subside within two weeks after the vein treatment. These may include mild bruising, itchiness, and tenderness or tightness in the leg.
How long is the recovery after treatment?
In most cases, patients can return to work on the same day as the procedure. At Premier Vein Clinic, we provide our patients with procedure-specific instructions to help them have smooth recovery after vein treatment.
